About the course
Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TOE) is an advanced haemodynamic monitoring tool that allows direct, real-time visualisation of cardiac structures and function, aiding in the diagnostic approach in haemodynamically unstable scenarios. The structured and systematic use of TOE in Operating Rooms and Intensive Care Units is fundamental to goal-oriented decision-making.
This 3-day intensive course provides a structured and clinically focused training pathway in Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TOE) for haemodynamic monitoring, combining essential theoretical foundations with high-quality hands-on training using simulators, virtual wet-lab models, and bedside clinical application in perioperative and critical care settings.
Faculty Members include Anaesthesiologists from the Cardiac Anaesthesia Group at Hospital de Santa Cruz, ULSLO, and an Intensivist from Hospital CUF Tejo, with the European Diploma of Advanced Echocardiography in Critical Care (EDEC). Clinical supervisors in the Operating Room are Anaesthesiologists with EACVI/EACTAIC Adult Transoesophageal Echocardiography Certification.
This 3-day intensive course provides a structured and clinically focused training pathway in Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TOE) for haemodynamic monitoring, combining essential theoretical foundations with high-quality hands-on training using simulators, virtual wet-lab models, and bedside clinical application in perioperative and critical care settings.
Participants may also complete an optional 1-week Clinical Experiential Learning Module (with a documented logbook), offering supervised exposure to TOE practice in real clinical environments, including the Operating Room and ICU. This module is designed to bridge the skills acquired during the course with real-world clinical application, serving as a capstone experience that consolidates the overall training. The scheduling of this supplementary module will be done taking into account the availability of the training center and the participant, and must be completed within one year after the end of the course.
