About the course
The Advanced Course on Neurodegenerative Diseases (NDD) will focus on the latest advances in clinical and molecular
research in the field of chronic neurodegenerative disorders. These diseases have very complex pathophysiological mechanisms and represent a great challenge to clinicians and researchers.
During the last few decades, investigation in this area has demonstrated that the most common NDD - Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) - although being different disorders, share some common underlying processes as well as some clinical aspects. This implicates that they should be studied in an integrated manner.
The course is intended to promote the understanding of clinical and diagnostic aspects of these devastating diseases and their association with molecular, biochemical and cellular mechanisms operating in their pathogenesis.
Furthermore, the course will cover the available therapies and those under development, as well as the importance of non-pharmacological treatment. Clinical, brain imaging, biochemical and neuropathological aspects of these disorders will be discussed by experienced neurologists, neuroradiologists, neuropathologists, neuroscientists and neuropsychologists.
